Sealing rings, shock-absorbing pads: Silicone "minor players" with "major effects" in the industrial field

Previously, we talked a lot about consumer-grade silicone products - phone cases, watch straps, remote control buttons... These are things that everyone comes into contact with on a daily basis. 
Let's change the topic today and talk about two "minor players" of silicone in the industrial field - sealing rings and shock absorbers. 
They are called "small" because they are usually hidden inside the devices and cannot be seen with the naked eye; they are called "large" because without them, many devices would simply not be able to function properly. 
Today, let's take a look at these two seemingly insignificant small accessories and see just how much responsibility they bear. 


1. Sealing ring 
The core mission of the sealing ring can be summed up in one sentence: It separates what should be separated and retains what should be retained. 
In a piece of equipment, there are liquids, gases, dust and moisture. They all stay where they are and cannot move around. The sealing rings' job is to enclose each of them properly. 


Where is the sealing ring used? 
To tell you the truth, you might not believe it, but silicone gaskets can be found everywhere - from the smart watches on your wrist, to the new energy vehicles on the roads, and even the planes in the sky. 
Smartwatch: Between the case and the screen, as well as between the buttons and the body, there are tiny silicone sealing rings. Their function is to prevent water and dust from entering, and to extend the product's lifespan. 
New energy vehicles: Between the outer shell and the cover plate of the battery pack, a sealing ring is needed to prevent moisture and dust from entering. The silicone sealing ring can maintain elasticity within the temperature range of -60℃ to 200℃. 
Engine and transmission: The engine oil and gear oil must not leak, and they must not be afraid of high temperatures. The silicone rubber sealing ring is oil-resistant and heat-resistant, and it can prevent the leakage of fuel and lubricating oil. 
Medical equipment: Pharmaceutical equipment and medical devices have stricter requirements for sealing - they must be leak-proof, free from contamination, and not release harmful substances. Silicone sealing rings are non-toxic and odorless, which perfectly meet these requirements. 
Household appliances: In electric water heaters, electric irons, and microwave ovens, silicone sealing rings are also standard equipment. 


Why silicon gel? 
There are many types of materials for sealing rings, but silicone has several unique advantages: 
The temperature range it can withstand is extremely wide. It maintains elasticity from -60℃ to 200℃. It doesn't become hard in winter or melt in summer, which is something many other materials cannot achieve. 
It has excellent anti-aging properties. Silicone is resistant to oxidation and ozone, unlike ordinary rubber which cracks after a few years of use.

II. Shock Absorbing Pad 
If the sealing ring is the "gatekeeper", then the shock absorber pad is the "buffer". 
When the equipment is in operation, it will vibrate - the motor shakes when it rotates, the machine sways when it operates, and the vehicle jolts when it moves. If these vibrations are not dealt with, the consequences will be very serious: precision components will be damaged by the vibration, screws will be loosened by the vibration, the noise will increase, and the equipment's lifespan will shorten. 
The function of the shock absorber pad is to "catch" the vibrations and prevent them from being transmitted to the wrong areas.

Aviation and aerospace: The vibration and buffering of instruments, meters, chassis and cabinets all rely on silicone shock-absorbing pads to handle. 
Precision instruments: In the high-precision sensors, chip packaging, and the fixed structure of circuit boards, the silicone shock-absorbing pads ensure the stable operation of the equipment. 
Industrial machinery: The machinery and equipment in factories usually have silicone shock-absorbing pads at the bottom to reduce vibration transmission and lower noise. 
Automobile: The brackets and isolation pads for the engine and transmission help reduce noise and vibration inside the vehicle, thereby enhancing the riding comfort. 
High-temperature equipment: industrial furnaces, engine exhaust systems, baking production lines. Ordinary materials cannot withstand high temperatures, but silicone shock pads can.
