I Want to Make a Silicone Product, What Do I Need to Provide?

A Clear Guide to the Silicone Customization Process

Hello! This is the editor from Hongxiangda.

We often have clients contact us: "I want to make a silicone product, but I don't know where to start." "What information do I need to provide?" "Is the process complicated?"

Today, we'll explain the entire silicone product customization process in the simplest terms. After reading this, you'll see that it's not as complicated as you might think.

Step 1: You Only Need to Provide One of These Three Things
Many clients think that customizing silicone products requires providing professional drawings or complex documents. Actually, that's not the case. For first-time clients, you only need to prepare any one of the following three:

1. A Sample (The Easiest Way)
If you have an existing product sample, just send it to us. This is the simplest, most foolproof method.

What we'll do after receiving your sample:

Analyze it: measure dimensions, examine the structure

Confirm the material: determine what material it is, what hardness

Replicate it: create a 1:1 copy based on your sample

Tip for sending samples: If you can send two or more, that's even better—it makes it easier for us to analyze and test.

2. Drawings (The Most Accurate Way)
If you have product drawings, whether they're CAD files, 3D files (STP/IGS format), or PDF drawings, you can send them directly to us.

What we'll do after receiving your drawings:

Evaluate the drawings: check if the structure is suitable for silicone molding

Discuss details: identify areas that might need adjustment or optimization

Calculate costs: provide a quote based on size and complexity

Don't have drawings? No problem. We can create reverse drawings based on your sample, and you can confirm them before we move forward.

3. An Idea (The Most Flexible Way)
If you only have an idea—like "I want a pink silicone coaster with a cat paw print on it"—that's perfectly fine too.

Here's how we'll help:

Discuss your needs: understand your idea in detail and its intended use

Sketch it out: draw rough shapes and dimensions

Confirm the direction: once you're happy with the concept, we'll refine it

Step 2: We'll Discuss These Key Questions
After receiving your sample or idea, we'll confirm the following details with you:

Question 1: Where Will the Product Be Used?
Different usage scenarios have different requirements for silicone:

Everyday items: like phone cases, coasters—regular silicone works fine

Kitchenware and tableware: needs food-grade silicone that's heat-resistant

Baby and children's products: must be food-grade, with stricter environmental standards

Outdoor products: needs good weather resistance—not afraid of sun or rain

Medical/electronic: may require special certifications or conductive properties

All you need to tell us: where the product will be used, and we'll recommend the appropriate material.

Question 2: How Soft or Firm Should It Be?
Silicone softness can be adjusted. We use Shore A hardness to measure it—the higher the number, the firmer it is:

0-10 Shore A: very soft, like jelly

20-30 Shore A: soft, like a baby bottle nipple

40-50 Shore A: medium softness, like a phone case

60-70 Shore A: relatively firm, like a tire

80+ Shore A: very firm, like hard plastic

All you need to tell us: what you'd like it to feel like—as soft as what?—and we'll make recommendations.

Question 3: What Color Do You Want?
Theoretically, silicone can be matched to any color:

Pantone number: most accurate if you have one

Physical sample: send us a color sample

Reference image: send us a picture, and we'll get as close as possible

A quick note: there might be slight color variations, so we recommend confirming with a sample first.

Question 4: What Quantity Do You Need?
Quantity directly affects cost and production method selection:

Sample/small batch: dozens to hundreds of pieces

Medium batch: thousands of pieces

Large batch: tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of pieces

Be upfront about your quantity—we'll help you choose the most cost-effective production method.

Step 3: We Start Working, You Just Wait for Results
After we've confirmed all the details, here's how things work at Hongxiangda:

1. Quotation (1-2 days)
Based on product size, complexity, and quantity, we'll provide you with a detailed quotation.

2. Mold Making (7-15 days)
Once you confirm the quotation, we begin making the mold. The mold is like the silicone product's "identity card"—get it right, and the product is half done.

What you need to do: confirm the mold cost, then wait patiently.

3. Sampling (3-5 days)
After the mold is ready, we'll produce a few sample pieces and send you photos or the actual samples for confirmation.

What you need to do: check the samples—is the color right? Are the dimensions correct? Does the feel meet your expectations? If adjustments are needed, we'll make them; if everything's good, we move to the next step.

4. Mass Production (depends on quantity)
Once samples are confirmed, we begin批量生产 (full-scale production).

What you need to do: let us know your delivery deadline requirements.

5. Quality Inspection and Shipping
Before any batch leaves our factory, we conduct quality inspections to ensure every product you receive meets our standards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Is mold making expensive? How much does it cost?
A: The cost of mold making depends on the product's size and complexity. Small, simple molds might cost a few thousand yuan; large, complex ones could be tens of thousands. The mold is a one-time investment—后续生产 (subsequent production) only requires payment for the products themselves.

Q2: What's the minimum order quantity?
A: This depends on product size and process. Simple, small products can be done in quantities of a few hundred; complex, large products might require several thousand. Feel free to contact us for具体 details.

Q3: Is there a sampling fee?
A: Generally, there's a small sampling fee to cover material and labor costs. If you proceed with production, the sampling fee is usually refunded or deducted from the total payment.

Q4: How long until I receive my products?
A: From the time mold making is confirmed, generally:

Mold making: 7-15 days

Sampling and confirmation: 3-5 days

Mass production: typically 7-20 days, depending on quantity
Overall, simple products take 20-25 days; complex products take 30-40 days.

Q5: Can you help me with design?
A: Yes. If you only have an idea and no drawings, we have designers we collaborate with who can help create drawings for you. This service has an additional fee.
