Hello! This is the editor from Hongxiangda.
Many clients who approach us for custom silicone products for the first time ask the same question:
"How long does it take from placing the order to delivery?"
This question seems simple, but the answer isn't straightforward. Custom silicone manufacturing isn't like buying something off a store shelf. It involves multiple stages—mold making, sampling, production, quality inspection—each requiring its own time.
Today, I'll break down this timeline in the most direct way possible.
The Short Answer: How Long Typically?
For a standard custom silicone product order, from order placement to delivery, the typical timeline is:
15-25 business days
That's about 3-5 weeks.
However, this is a reference. The actual timeline can vary depending on product complexity, number of molds, order quantity, and other factors. Let me break it down step by step, and you'll understand why.
Step 1: Requirements Confirmation & Drawing Review (1-3 days)
This is the first and most critical step.
You need to provide product drawings, samples, or a clear description of your requirements. We evaluate the product structure, determine how to build the mold, select materials, and decide on surface finishing.
How fast this step goes depends largely on how complete your information is.
If you can provide 3D drawings (e.g., STP, IGS formats), it can be done in 1 day. If you only have hand-drawn sketches or physical samples, we need to measure and design, which may take 2-3 days.
Tip: The more details you provide upfront—product use, dimensions, color, hardness, surface finish—the more time we save.
Step 2: Mold Making (7-12 days)
The mold is the "master" of silicone products—every product is formed from it. The quality of the mold directly determines product quality.
This is the most time-consuming step in the entire custom process.
Simple products (e.g., round gaskets, simple buttons): 7-8 days
Medium complexity (e.g., products with contours, multi-cavity buttons): about 10 days
Complex products (e.g., multi-color, overmolding, precision structures): 12-15 days
After the mold is made, we need to test it on the machine to ensure it works properly before moving to the next step.
Tip: If you plan future modifications to your product, let us know in advance. We can design the mold with future adjustments in mind, saving time on remaking molds later.
Step 3: Sampling & Confirmation (5-7 days)
Once the mold is ready, we produce the first samples and send them to you for confirmation.
When you receive the samples, you need to check:
Are the dimensions accurate?
Does the feel meet your expectations?
Is the color correct?
Does the function work properly?
The time for this step largely depends on how quickly you provide feedback.
If everything is approved on the first try, 5-7 days is enough. If modifications are needed, it will take additional time—typically 3-5 days per revision round.
Tip: Inspect the samples as soon as you receive them, and list all changes in one go. This avoids back-and-forth and multiple revision rounds.
Step 4: Mass Production (5-10 days)
Once the samples are confirmed, we move to mass production.
Production time primarily depends on order quantity:
Small batch (hundreds to thousands): 5-7 days
Medium batch (thousands to tens of thousands): 7-10 days
Large batch (tens of thousands+): 10-15 days
This step is relatively stable. As long as the mold and materials are ready, our production lines can proceed as scheduled.
Tip: If you have a specific delivery deadline, let us know in advance. We can plan our production schedule accordingly.
Step 5: Quality Inspection & Packaging (1-3 days)
After production, every product goes through quality inspection—dimensional checks, visual inspection, functional testing.
Only products that pass inspection move to packaging. Packaging time varies based on requirements:
Simple bulk packaging: 1 day
Individual packaging, labeling, etc.: 2-3 days
Is There Any Way to Speed It Up?
Yes. If you're in a hurry, here are several ways to shorten the timeline:
1. Provide complete 3D drawings
Eliminates the need for measurement and design time, moving directly to mold making.
2. Simplify product structure
The simpler the product, the faster the mold making and production.
3. Prioritize sample confirmation
If you provide feedback within 24 hours of receiving samples, we can move to production immediately.
4. Choose standard materials and finishes
Non-standard colors, hardness levels, or surface treatments may require special material sourcing, adding time.
5. Communicate your production schedule in advance
Let us know your delivery requirements early, and we can prioritize your order in our production planning.
Special note: If your order is extremely urgent, we can discuss expedited processing. In expedited cases, the timeline can be compressed to 10-15 business days, but rush fees will apply. We recommend planning ahead whenever possible.
Why Do Some Factories Say "7 Days Delivery"?
You may have heard other factories promise "7 days delivery."
Please be aware: 7-day delivery typically only applies in the following situations:
An existing mold is already available (no mold making needed)
Only simple sampling (not mass production)
Or the factory is being overly optimistic about what's realistic
For a new project starting from scratch (mold making + sampling + production), 7 days is not realistic. Mold making alone takes 7-10 days, and that's before other steps.
Our advice: Instead of asking "how fast can you go," ask "how long does it normally take." A factory that gives you an honest timeline is likely more reliable.
Hongxiangda's Approach
At Hongxiangda, our philosophy on delivery timelines is: We don't overpromise, but we deliver on what we promise.
Before order confirmation, we provide a clear timeline based on your product specifications
During production, we provide regular progress updates so you're always informed
If unexpected issues arise (e.g., material shortages, equipment issues), we notify you immediately and work together on a solution
We believe a reliable delivery commitment is more important than an overly optimistic one.
Conclusion
For custom silicone products, from order to delivery, the typical timeline is 15-25 business days.
Within this timeline, mold making and sampling are the two most time-consuming steps—and also the most critical for product quality. It's worth giving them the time they need.
If you're planning to produce a custom silicone product, we recommend reserving 4-6 weeks for the entire production cycle. Early communication and planning lead to a smoother process.
If you have specific product requirements, please feel free to contact us. Share your drawings or ideas, and we'll provide a detailed timeline and quotation.
